Masala Chai, literally "mixed-spice tea," originated in India after the British East India Company planted tea gardens throughout the 1800s. Initially slow to adopt the new beverage, the addition of spices, herbs, cream and sugar made it the favorite that we know today. Spicy and strong black tea blend. Served hot or cold, but always creamy and puckeringly sweet. Chai is also sometimes called "spiced black tea."
Brewing Tips: For an individual serving- in a pot, add 1/2 cup water and 2 teaspoons sugar or honey. Bring mixture to a boil. Add 1 teabag and 1/2 cup whole milk (whole milk works best although lighter milks may be substituted). Reduce to low heat and simmer for 5 minutes while stirring. Pour into a mug, serve hot or cold. For a group, add 1 teabag chai per 8oz mug and increase portions of water, milk, and sugar or honey accordingly.
Ingredients: Black tea, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, cloves and black pepper
The signature tin helps keep your tea fresh. Tin artwork is an old-fashioned beeskep. This unique tea is hand packaged in Charleston, South Carolina by Oliver Pluff and Co., a veteran-owned business.
